Sinn Féin Ard-Fheis 1996

    Political Hostages

  1. Support the motion   Oppose the motion

This Ard Fheis calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners held as a result of the British/Irish conflict. Furthermore, we put on record that the continuing lack of movement by the British government and the cynical use of political hostages by the Dublin government at Christmas has and continues to put unnecessary tensions on the peace process.

  12. Support the motion   Oppose the motion

That this Ard Fheis condemns the 26 County government for the way they are treating republican prisoners and their families. They are using the prisoners as bargaining chips. They punished prisoners and their families for something that had nothing to do with them, events that the prisoners have no control over. We ask this Ard Fheis to call for the immediate release of all republican prisoners.

George McBrearty/Charles Maguire Cumann, County Donegal

    Passed by delegates

We condemn the continued imprisonment of Colin Duffy. The recent conviction of UVF man Lindsay Robb, the main prosecution witness at Colin's `trial', demonstrates the continuing trend of unsafe convictions in the Diplock courts. This Ard Fheis demands his immediate release.
