EAST DERRY CANDIDATE MALACHY Ó KANE
Malachy Ó Kane is a native of Dungiven and has been political active since his teens. He has represented Sinn Fein in the East Derry district since the early nineties.
A local farmer, Malachy has expressed concern over the crisis facing the Beef Industry and has consistently called for an All-Ireland marketing strategy which would help to alleviate the problems facing Irish farmers in the North of Ireland.
A skilled craftsman and joiner, Malachy's work is in much demand and he has donated many examples of his craftsmanship to local charities for fundraising purposes.

At 61 sitting UUP MP William Ross is one of the younger members of the Ulster Unionist old guard. This time around he has to contend with the DUP but this should not be much trouble to Ross. Malachy O'Kane is the Sinn Fein candidate. The party took just under 10% of the vote here in 1996.
