LAGAN VALLEY CANDIDATE SUE RAMSEY
Sue Ramsey, a 26 years old woman who lives in Twinbrook in Belfast, is one of a growing team of energetic and enthusiastic political activists whose skills were honed in the post-hunger strike Sinn Fein, where political education was a mixture of community activism, electoral organisation and front-line street politics.
Sue was born and spent her formative years in Springhill, West Belfast. In 1980 she and the family moved to the Twinbrook estate.
Her first involvement with Sinn Fein was through the Party's Youth Department. By 1992 she was involved in full-time party work in her local area as well as in the Party's Womens Department. Sue, who also works in a range of community activities and whose name is synonymous with the Twinbrook Festival Committee, clearly possessed leadership and organisational skills and before long was involved in regional Party politics as a member of the Comhairle Limistéar and the Six County Comhairle, a role she still fulfills.
