Resignation of Chris Flood TD as Minister of State

Sinn Fein has paid tribute to the work of Dublin South-West TD Chris Flood who has resigned because of ill health as Minister of State with Special Responsibility for Local Development and the National Drugs Strategy.

Councillor Seán Crowe said that Deputy Flood's resignation today is a loss to the community of a strong voice for the Dublin South-West constituency.

Councillor Crowe said:

``Chris Flood has always been a politician who deserves credit for his positive and inclusive approach to working with individuals, community groups and other political parties, including Sinn Fein.

``He has been a stirling worker in office and he has made a real contribution in an area neglected and marginalised by the Establishment. It is sad that he has had to relinquish his post because of ill health but that should not diminish what he has achieved through his efforts and his inclusive attitude to all sections of our community.

``On behalf of Sinn Fein in Dublin South-West, I would like to extend my best wishes to Chris Flood and his family for the future.''
