Sinn Fein welcomes Ulster Unionist Party vote

Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams MP has welcomed today's decision by the Ulster Unionist Council.

Mr Adams said:

``I welcome today's decision. It is the right decision and it will be welcomed by the people of this island and beyond.

''The onus is now on everyone to honour their commitments, especially the British Government which has to fulfil its commitments under the Good Friday Agreement and the Joint Statement of May 5th.

''There is an opportunity now to move forward and to implement the Good Friday Agreement which the overwhelming majority of the people of this island voted for, an opportunity to build an alternative to the rejectionists and make politics work.

''Inclusivity, equality and mutual respect is the way forward. We now have an unprecedented opportunity to advance the peace process on this basis.''
