RUC assisting loyalist shut-down

Sinn Fein has accused the RUC of helping loyalist Drumcree protestors shut down parts of Belfast yesterday afternoon (Wednesday).

Sinn Fein Vice-President Mr Pat Doherty said the RUC was ``effectively colluding with UDA and Orange Order members as they continue to cause maximum disruption throughout Belfast''.

The West Tyrone Assembly member said that he was at a meeting with the Industrial Development Board in Belfast yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) when a message was received form the RUC advising business premises to close early as city-centre demonstrations were planned by loyalists. Mr Doherty said:

``This is a totally ludicrous situation. Rather than preventing disruption to normal life in the city, the RUC is instead doing the bidding of those intent of wreaking havoc.''
