Mighty Man United should play fair over replica kits

A Sinn Fein councillor in Tallaght has accused Manchester United of ripping off their fans with news of the release of another strip for the new season which will financially stretch families with soccer-mad kids.

United are launching three new kits just 12 months after the last changes. Children's replica shirts will cost between £35 and £40 each.

Tallaght Councillor Sean Crowe said that United should show how much they really care about their fans by not ripping them off with expensive new kits every season. ``Instead of penalising fans by taxing their family budgets, United should be rewarding them for their loyalty and devotion,'' Cllr Crowe said. ``The mighty Manchester United should show that they care as much about their ordinary fans as they do about their wealthy shareholders.''

He added that a call by the National Parents' Council to boycott the new strip is not realistic but the Old Trafford club could help parents.

``Kids will want the shirt whatever it costs. A lot of families won't be able to resist the pressures of trying to keep their children happy, youngsters who are hyped up by very sophisticated, saturation marketing by the biggest and richest club in the world. Parents can't compete against that. United should play fair and give parents a break.''
