UFF must now call off threat - Gerry Kelly

Responding to today's press conference by the Ulster Democratic Party following a series of attacks by the Ulster Freedom Fighters, the Sinn Fein Assembly member for North Belfast, Gerry Kelly, said:

``I am glad to see that the leadership of the UDP has finally spoken on these attacks. These attacks, however, are not `tit for tat' as claimed by the UDP. They were planned, orchestrated and then escalated by the UFF over a period of time since before Drumcree.

``There clearly is a strategy in place to attack Catholics and their property on an ever-increasing basis. In the face of these attacks, the discipline shown by the republican and nationalist community has been highly commendable.

``What is required now is an immediate statement from the leadership of the UFF lifting its threat to kill Catholics in North and West Belfast and for them to end their latest wave of sectarian attacks.''
