Concern at Trimble Tactics

Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams MP today said:

``There is mounting speculation that David Trimble intends to put forward a tactical approach to his conference which may create a crisis for the Assembly and Executive, lead to the suspension of the institutions, with the objective of getting the blame on Irish republicans for this development, and Sinn Fein being excluded from the political process.

``There is little difference in my view between this position and that of Jeffrey Donaldson.  Both will lead to disaster.  The process should not be reduced to a blame game.

``I would urge Mr. Trimble not to go down this road but to work with nationalists and republicans to ensure that the Agreement is implemented in full, that all parties keep to their commitments and that we provide the better future people voted for in May 1998.''ENDS
