Extradition Decision Welcomed

Sinn Fein Councillor Martin Ferris this evening welcomed the announcement that the government will not be pursuing the extradition of Angelo Fusco and Paul Magee.

Cllr. Ferris said:

``Today's decision not to pursue extradition warrants against Angelo Fusco and Paul Magee is welcome and will undoubtedly come as a relief to them and their families who have lived with the threat of extradition for many years.

``Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, political extradition caused major controversy and saw the authorities in this State trample on the rights  of citizens to secure extradition at Britain's behest. We have a right to expect that these days are over and that the government will now end its pursuit of all those facing extradition on political charges.''
