Sinn Fein supports Refugee Solidarity Badge launched by Mary Robinson in Dublin, Saturday

Sinn Fein will be represented by Councillor Seán Crowe at today's (Saturday's) launch in Dublin of a Refugee Solidarity Badge by the United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights, Mary Robinson.

The launch is being supported by the African Refugee Network, Amnesty International and the Irish Congress of Trade Unions.

The badge is the brain-child of students at Castleknock Community College and profits will go to the Irish Refugee Council.

Cllr Seán Crowe said:

``Wearing this badge is a practical way for Irish people to demonstrate their solidarity and empathy with people forced to flee their own countries - often in fear of their families' lives amid political upheaval - and who have sought a build a new life in Ireland.

``This is a very worthwhile initiative which may spur people on to take a more public stand against open acts of verbal and physical racism.

``On behalf of Sinn Fein, I applaud its introduction.''
