North Belfast Attacks continue

Sinn Fein Assembly member for North Belfast Gerry Kelly has said that loyalists seem intent on continuing their ongoing sectarian campaign in the area. Mr. Kelly's remarks come after a number of incidents over the weekend and an attack on catholic school children in Duncairn this morning as they waited at a bus stop.

Mr. Kelly said:

``There were a number of catholic homes attacked in North Belfast over the weekend. There were also crowds of loyalists from the Lower Shankill estate spilling out onto Carlisle Circus attempting to attack Catholics.

``This morning catholic school children waiting at a bus stop in Duncairn came under sustained attacks. One of the children is currently undergoing hospital treatment.

``Throughout last weekend violence emanated from areas controlled by the UDA. Yet we were told by John Reid on Friday that the organisation was still on cessation and furthermore had given assurances that the recent violence they were orchestrating would be brought to an end.''
