Gateway closure a disaster for Dublin

Sinn Fein Dublin North East Councillor Larry O'Toole, has described the proposed job losses at the Clonshaugh Gateway plant as a devastating blow to the area.  Councillor O'Toole said:

The decision of Gateway Computers to close its European Headquarters, which is based at Clonshaugh, will have a devastating impact not only on the immediate workers and their families, but also on the surrounding area.  The Government s policy of ploughing millions of pounds into attracting multi-national high-tech companies at the expense of local indigenous business is now leaving tens of thousands of Irish workers exposed to the downturn in the American economy.

The Government through its policies has ultimate responsibility for this disaster.

They must initiate an emergency plan to alleviate the problems that will be faced by the many, many young families in the North Dublin area are dependent on this company for their living.
