Donegal Sinn Fein Councillor announces retirement

Veteran Sinn Fein Inishowen Councillor Jim Ferry has announced his intention to retire from Buncrana Urban District Council at the end of the year. Speaking prior to the announcement Councillor Ferry said:

``It has been an honour and a pleasure to represent the people of Inishowen and it is regret that I take this decision to retire. I have been thinking about retiring for some time now and I am confident that I am making the right decision. Sinn Fein will be seeking a co-option to the Council and I am sure that Sinn Fein will continue to advance in Donegal as it is doing in the rest of Ireland.''

Sinn Fein Chairperson and Foyle MLA Mitchel McLaughlin, paying tribute to Councillor Ferry said:

``Jim has been an active and valued republican activist for many years. While we regret his decision to retire, we understand his reasons for it. At this time I would like to record the thanks of Sinn Fein for the contribution Jim has made in advancing republicanism in Ireland and am sure that his contribution will not cease with his retirement.''
