Unionist threats will collapse institutions

Sinn Fein Chief Whip Alex Maskey, responding to reports that the UUP and DUP will table a joint motion seeking to exclude the two Sinn Fein Ministers, today said:

``It is obvious to everyone that the institutions are going to collapse unless the unionists lift their threats and work with Sinn Fein and the other parties as they agreed to in the Good Friday Agreement. The institutions will collapse because unionists are refusing to administer them except on their own terms.

``Sinn Fein entirely repudiate what David Trimble is seeking to accomplish - the renegotiation of the Good Friday Agreement.

``David Trimble continually looks to close down the possibility of progress across all of the remaining core issues. In coalescing with Anti-agreement unionists David Trimble's objectives, which he outlined back in October last year, have become blindingly obvious.

``It is a powerfully negative message that David Trimble is sending to nationalists and republicans that he is now happy to collude with every anti-agreement faction in the Assembly.''
