Reid must state his position on UDA ceasefire

North Antrim Sinn Fein representative Councillor Philip McGuigan has slammed British Secretary of State John Reid's failure to publicly state his position on the UDA ceasefire.

Councillor McGuigan said:

``Today there has been two pipe-bombs discovered in Ballycastle and yesterday disaster was narrowly averted when a car bomb was discovered in the town.

``These attacks are clearly the work of the UDA. They have been responsible for almost 200 gun and bomb attacks against nationalists in the Six Counties this year alone.

``While the UDA have been involved in nightly attacks, against the nationalist population, the British Secretary of State John Reid has remained silent. I would now call upon him to make public his position on the UDA ceasefire - a group which has armed and supplied with intelligence information by the British government.''
