Government booklet on Nice - an abuse of power

Sinn Fein TD for Dublin South Central Aengus Ó Snodaigh has described today's publication of the government's information booklet on the Nice Treaty as an abuse of power designed to promote a yes vote.

Deputy Ó Snodaigh said:

``Since the defeat of the Nice Treaty last summer we have seen the government act in a totally undemocratic manner. Not only have they defied the wishes of the electorate in re-running this referendum they have undermined the work of the Referendum Commission by publishing a booklet which is clearly designed to promote a yes vote.

``This is all about circumventing the McKenna judgement and attempting to fix the outcome of the referendum on Nice. 

``I believe that the electorate will see the production of this propaganda for what it is  - an abuse of power being paid for by the tax-payers who voted to reject this Treaty in the first place.''
