British must fulfil responsibilities

Responding to comments from British Secretary of State John Reid at the British Labour Party Conference Sinn Fein Vice President Pat Doherty said:

``The British government aren't a referee in the peace process. They are a signatory to an International Treaty, which was endorsed by the people of Ireland, north and south. And they have a particular responsibility to implement the Good Friday Agreement across a range of issues, something that they have singularly failed to do.

``The British government and John Reid are also well aware of Sinn Fein's position and our support for the Agreement. I met with Dr. Reid again this week. at the British Labour Party conference. But Dr. Reid needs to stop tactically managing the process and stop using the Ulster Unionist threat to bring down the institutions as an excuse for his government not fulfilling its responsibilities.''
