Robinson fails to address questions over Health Impact Assessments

Sinn Fein Regional Development Spokesperson, Newry & Armagh MLA Pat McNamee has expressed concerns that the Minister Peter Robinson has failed to address the issue of access to health services in the proposed 10 year regional transport strategy published today.

Mr McNamee said:

``Access to hospitals is a major issue. For people living in isolated communities the lack of adequate public transport and the poor condition of much of the rural roads network severely affect their access to hospital services.

``It is matter of concern that Peter Robinson has failed to adequately address the issue of a Health Impact Assessment for the Regional Transport Strategy.

``Apart from wider concerns about the imbalance between public transport in general and private car use, the truth is that if health is to made a priority that all key strategic decisions should be made with access to service ion mind.'' ENDS
