Refer Lindsay Tribunal report to the DPP - Ó Caoláin

Sinn Fein spokesperson on Health Caoimhghín O'Caoláin has called on the Minister for Health to refer the Lindsay Tribunal's report to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The Cavan-Monaghan TD said, ``Judge Lindsay should be congratulated for producing her report on this tragedy which has so far resulted in the deaths of 79 people. But I must question her decision not to refer the report to the Director of Public Prosecutions to determine whether the findings of this report could lead to some-one being held accountable in the courts.

``From the government's point of view it is important that the recommendations of the report are implemented as fast as possible. The report makes a number of key recommendations regarding improvement of services, co-ordination and communication, as well as the provision of more consultant haematologists. With the government's planned cutbacks, will the Minister confirm that these recommendations will be acted on.

``The Minister also promised an inquiry into the role of transnational pharmaceutical companies during his election campaign and I would ask him to act speedily on this before this promise joins the multitude of Fianna Fáil election promises that have been breached or broken.'' ENDS
