Ó Snodaigh welcomes confirmation of amendments to protect immigrant domestic workers

Sinn Fein Spokesperson on Justice, Equality, and Human Rights Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has welcomed the Government s confirmation that they will be introducing legislation to amend the Employment Equality Act to extend protection to immigrant domestic workers in early 2003. Speaking after questioning the Government on the matter in the Dáil earlier today, Deputy Ó Snodaigh said:

In light of the serious shortcomings identified in the current employment legislation regarding protection against exploitation of immigrant domestic workers or immigrant live-in nannies, Sinn Fein want to see the Employment Equality Act amended to extend protection to these workers as soon as possible. I think that it is particularly appropriate that this issue is highlighted during National Anti-Racist Workplace Week, and I appreciate the Government s positive response. We will monitor the Government to ensure that they honour this pledge.
