McDonald - Burton's Advertisement Misleading

Sinn Fein's Dublin West candidate, Mary Lou McDonald has criticized a series of advertisements taken out in the local newspapers by the Labour candidate, Joan Burton. The advertisements state that Councillor Burton is `` A TD With A Purpose''.

Ms McDonald said:

``Councillor Burton is exactly that, a councillor. She is not a TD. She lost her seat in the 1997 General Election when her vote collapsed. This is false advertising at it's worst from the Labour Party. However, we have come to expect this from them over the past number of years.

The Election is on May 17th. It is then that the people will decide who is to represent them in Leinster House. Until then, perhaps it would be better if Councillor Burton were less presumptuous about the intentions of the electorate.'' ENDS
