Republicans gather to pay tribute to families of fallen patriots

Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams MP will hold a press conference in the City West Hotel, Dublin at 4pm tomorrow (Saturday 13th) in advance of the Tírghrá commemoration event. Mr. Adams will be accompanied by Joe Cahill along with some of the families who will attend the event later that evening. After the press conference the media will be given access to the main hall.

Speaking today in advance of the event the Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams MP said:

`` This event is a national tribute to the families of IRA Volunteers, Sinn Fein activists and other republican activists who were killed in recent times.

`` The Tírghrá event will be the first and it is intended to be the only national tribute of this kind to the families of the republican dead. It will also be a commemoration and a celebration of these patriots. This is intended as a tribute to these families. Their grief and loss and their sacrifice is very real. So too is their pride in loved ones. As they are entitled to be.

`` I hope Tírghrá will give them all some sense of the gratitude, esteem and respect in which they are held by other republicans and nationalists.'' ENDS

Editors Note: The Tírghrá event will take place tomorrow evening in the City West Hotel
