Sinn Fein to meet Oireachtas Committee on the Constitution
Sinn Fein Chairperson Mitchel McLaughlin and Cavan Monaghan TD Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin will this afternoon meet with Brian Lenihan, the Chairperson of the All-Party Oireachtas Committee on the Constitution.
The meeting will take place at 2pm in Leinster House and will come in the wake of the publication of the Committee's report into northern political representation in the Houses of the Oireachtas. The delegation will be available to talk to the media after the meeting.
Speaking this morning Deputy Ó Caoláin said:
``The Constitution recognises the entitlement of every person born on the island of Ireland to be part of the Irish nation. Democratic participation in the life of the nation is fundamental both to the expression of this right and to national cohesion.
``This and other related matters have been under consideration for some time now by the All -Party Oireachtas Committee on the Constitution. The results of their deliberations are due to be published today and in light of this I look forward to meeting with Deputy Lenihan to discuss the contents of the report. This is an issue which Sinn Fein has long campaigned on and I hope we will see progress made today.''
