Sellafield must shut

Daithí Doolan, Chairperson of Dublin Sinn Fein and general election candidate for Dublin South East, has called on people to lay aside party political differences and unite in the campaign to shut down Sellafield. Mr Doolan was speaking ahead of a protest rally planned for the British Embassy at 6pm tomorrow.

``Sellafield is a threat to all of us who live on the east coast of this island. Radiation recognises no border. Despite the lies peddled by the British government the dangers of Sellafield are very real and have had serious, indeed fatal, consequences in parts of this country.''

``The concerns expressed by the government to Britain have been ignored and the planned release of contaminated water is set to continue for decades. In the face of this danger to the Irish people it is important that all parties in Ireland maintain a united front in calling for the closure of Sellafield.''

The rally will be chaired by Dublin West Sinn Fein representative Mary Lou McDonald and speakers include Daithí Doolan, Cllr Arthur Morgan of Louth and Tim Hourigan, a spokesperson for the Shut Down Sellafield Campaign. It is organised jointly by Dublin Sinn Fein and Ográ Shinn Fein.
