Kelly - UDA split

Responding to the statement issued by the UDA this evening announcing that they had expelled Johnny Adair from their organisation. Sinn Fein Assembly member for North Belfast Gerry Kelly said:

``Sinn Fein has consistently said that the problem of loyalist attacks on the catholic and nationalist community is not confined to one individual or group. Both the UDA and the LVF are engaged in almost nightly attacks on catholics with guns, bombs and other missiles.

``My fear is that this statement indicates that there are further deep divisions within the UDA and points to an escalation in the recent spate of loyalist in-fighting. Historically these sorts of feuds and shooting wars lead directly to the guns eventually being turned on the Catholic community.''
