Big turnout expected for march in Dublin to Save Monaghan General Hospital

Ó Caoláin urges support

The leader of the Sinn Fein TDs in the Dáil and the party's Health spokesperson, Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD, has urged support for the march in Dublin tomorrow (Wednesday) to save Monaghan General Hospital. Hundreds of people are expected to travel from Monaghan to protest at the Department of Health.

The Cavan/Monaghan TD said:

``The people of County Monaghan are incensed at the step by step removal of services from our hospital, culminating in the recent suspension of surgery. The Minister for Health and Children Mícheál Martin promised to intervene in a `doomsday' situation and to ensure that the hospital remained open. He has failed to act. The downgrading of the hospital has been accelerated since the general election. Tomorrow's rally is a demand for action now on the part of the government.

``I urge people to come out tomorrow and show their support for Monaghan General Hospital.''
