Sinn Fein supports Garvaghy Road Residents position

Commenting today on speculation in the media regarding any possible proposal around the issue of this weekends Drumcree parade. Sinn Fein Chairperson Mitchel McLaughlin said:

``Sinn Fein support the position of the Garvaghy Road Community regarding this parade. There should not be any parade along Garvaghy Road without the consent of the nationalist residents who live there,

``Our position on Orange Marches is well known. We support their right to march, but where there are a small number of contentious parades, there is an onus on the Orange Order to get the agreement of the host community.

``So in the specific case of a proposal for a march along Garvaghy Road our position is clear. There is no consent from the residents of Garvaghy Road for a parade, therefore none should go ahead.''ENDS
