Lissadell Job Losses A Huge blow for South Monaghan - Ó Caoláin

Sinn Fein Cavan/ Monaghan Deputy Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin has expressed disappointment with the news that the Lissadell Towels factory at Aclint Bridge is to lay off 60 employees. The redundancies are due to take effect in the next 70 days.

Deputy Ó Caoláin said: I first of all want to offer my support to the staff involved and their families at this difficult time. Lissadell Towels has been in South Monaghan for over thirty years and this news is a huge blow for the entire community.

It is imperative that the government intervene to ensure that quality, long term employment is directed to this region as a matter of urgency. That said, all efforts must be employed by government and its agencies to exhaust what steps, if any, can yet be taken to avert this impending blow to workers, their dependents and the economy of South Monaghan.

Meanwhile, local Sinn Fein Councillors Matt Carthy and Noel Keelan have also demanded that government action be taken to ensure all support is provided to the employees involved and that alternative employment is developed in the Carrickmacross and South Monaghan area without delay. ENDS
