Blix report shows inspections are working

Government must sit up and take notice

Sinn Fein spokesperson on International Affairs Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has described the latest report from UN Weapons Inspector Hans Blix as ``evidence that the weapons inspections are working''. He called on the Irish government to sit up and take notice of the report and speak out against the war at the European Council meeting on Monday.

Deputy Ó Snodaigh said:

``As far as Sinn Fein is concerned there is no justification for the US and Britain to launch a war on Iraq. The latest report from Hans Blix provides evidence that the weapons inspections are working. The inspectors should now be allowed to continue with their work.

``The Irish government must sit up and take notice of the report and speak out against the war at the European Council meeting on Monday. They should also immediately stop allowing the US military to use Shannon airport.

``This latest report should provide an added impetus to people the length and breath of the country to get out and join the No to War marches in Dublin and Belfast tomorrow afternoon.'' ENDS
