Bradley challenged on policing debate claims

Sinn Fein Chairperson Mitchel McLaughlin has dismissed the claims of Denis Bradley, deputy chairperson of the Policing Board that the policing debate in over.

Mr McLaughlin said;

``I would challenge Denis Bradley's claim that the policing debate is over. It is far from over. I accept that many of Bradley's supporters in the SDLP would like the debate to be over but Sinn Fern will not settle for less than the new beginning to policing promised in the Good Friday Agreement.

``For example is the debate on collusion over. Is the running of agents over? Is the spying and phone tapping over? Last week Dennis Bradley was calling for an end to these activities.

  ``Sinn Fein's public and private positions are the same. We do not yet have the new beginning to policing envisaged in the Good Friday Agreement or Patten. We do not have a democratically accountable, acceptable and representative policing service.'' ENDS
