Attack Follows Securocat Allegations

Commenting on a pipe bomb attack on West Belfast man Freddie Scappaticci's home this morning Sinn Fein Councillor Alex Maskey said:

`` Last month British Intelligence briefed comprehensively the British and Irish media. Faceless and nameless securocrats made a raft of serious but unsubstantiated allegations against Freddie Scappaticci.

`` This storm of accusations and allegations was accepted and repeated as fact by a large section of the media without question. Mr Scappaticci has appeared at a press conference and denied all of the allegations in categoric terms. Mr Scappaticci's family home was also shown on various media outlets and his address was widely publicised. This is the context in which this morning s attack has to be viewed.

`` Mr Scappaticci and his family should be left alone to get on with their lives in peace.''
