Tony Blair auctions off democracy outside Leinster House

Dublin Sinn Fein kick off day long protests

As part of the national day of action Dublin Sinn Fein is holding an 11:00 protest outside Leinster House, with an added twist-Tony Blair and David Trimble will be selling democracy in the Six Counties off to the highest bidders amongst the public.

Chairperson of Dublin Sinn Fein Daithí Doolan said that the protest will highlight the cheap attitude that the British Prime Minister and Unionist leader have towards democracy. A large crowd is expected at the protest, and they will be joined by Sinn Fein TDs..

Mr. Doolan said: ``We have been active since 7:30 this morning, when we dropped 12ft banners from major  bridges en route to the city centre, including bridges at Blanchardstown, Coolock, and Finglas on  the M50, the Fairview footbridge, Templelogue, Dun Laoghaire and Donnybrook.

``Local areas have been leafleting dart stations, and are now converging on the city for the 11:00am protest at Leinster House. As an added twist to the protest, we are going to have a visit from Tony Blair and David Trimble, who will be auctioning off democracy to the highest bidders amongst the public.

``This protest will further highlight what a cheap attitude Tony Blair and David Trimble have towards democracy in the Six Counties. We are going to be keeping up the pressure today in Dublin, in tandem with the rest of the country, where a similar campaign of protests, pickets, street theatre and mock ballots is taking place.''
