For a future as Equals

Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams speaking in Dungannon this morning at the start of a three day Sinn Fein leadership tour of the constituencies said: ``A vote for Sinn Fein is a vote for an end to all violence; it is a vote for inclusive negotiations; it is a vote for a future as equals and it is a vote for a party which has kept its commitment to the electorate''.

Mr. Adams said:

``This is probably the most important election since partition and probably the last general election of this century. So there is a sense of hope. Our party wants to turn that hope into reality. We want to turn around the great injustices suffered by all our people.

``We want to create an equal, just society. One free from fear, sectarianism and discrimination. One free of conflict. We want to make peace with the British government - and to do that, it must recognise the failure of exclusion.

``There is a new opportunity before us. We want to make peace with the unionists of Ireland, to guarantee them that this country is their home and ours, and that our futures are linked in mutual friendship and equality. But we have to start talking.

``We have tried to bring the conflict to an end and we are still trying. Any commitments we have made, we have kept. With others Sinn Fein created a solid foundation for peace over two years ago. The blueprint is there - it just has to be taken up. And Sinn Fein can be trusted to play our full part in making it happen.''

Note:

The Sinn Fein leadership will tomorrow begin a three day tour of the constituencies in which Sinn Fein is standing candidates. Gerry Adams, Pat Doherty, Martin McGuinness, Gerry Kelly, Gerry McHugh and Mitchel McLaughlin will visit Dungannon, Enniskillen, Omagh and Cookstown on Tuesday.
