Bombing Inquiry Needed - Sinn Fein

Sinn Fein's European candidate for Dublin, Seán Crowe has reiterated his party's call for a full and independent inquiry into the 1974 Dublin/ Monaghan bombings. He was speaking after a delegation of relatives met with the Taoiseach Bertie Ahern.

Mr Crowe said:

``There needs to be a full and Independent inquiry into the Dublin Monaghan bombings with particular emphasis on the role of RUC and British Army personnel in making and supplying the bombs and their pivotal role in carrying out these attacks.

``It says a lot for the so called independence of this state, that it would prefer to hide information about the largest atrocity carried out agains its citizens, on the grounds it might somehow upset, its much lauded relationship with Britain. This is the real political reasoning behind successive Government's failure to release sensitive Garda files on the bombings.

``A full and independent inquiry is needed. The relatives and friends of the victims of the Dublin / Monaghan bombings are entitled to know the truth about who and why their loved ones were targeted.''
