Mid-Ulster MP welcomes McAliskey bail

Martin McGuinness MP for Mid-Ulster has welcomed the decision to grant bail to Roisín McAliskey so that she can receive proper medical care prior to the birth of her child.

Mr. McGuinness said:

``I welcome the decision to move Roisín to the Whittington Hospital so that she can receive proper medical attention. The British authorities should now remove any restrictions attached to her bail so that she can also mentally prepare herself for what should be one of the most joyful events in the life of any woman. The birth of her first child.

``As Roisín's MP I will be writing to the British Minister concerned and also the German authorities urging that they both take this opportunity to end the inhumane treatment to which Roisín McAliskey has been subjected. She has already served the equivalent of a two year prison sentence without either the British or the German authorities producing even a shred of evidence of wrongdoing against her.

``Roisín should be informed without delay that she will not be returned to prison after the birth of her child.''
