Sinn Fein winning new voters every day

Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams MP speaking at the party's final press conference prior to Friday's election has called on people to change the face of electoral politics by voting Sinn Fein on Friday.

Mr. Adams said:

``Sinn Fein's increased mandate in recent elections makes us one of the fastest growing parties on this island. As the only party of the left standing on an independent platform Sinn Fein are committed to real social, economic and political change, to eliminating poverty and to offering an effective alternative to the corruption and failed politics which have been a feature of political life here in recent years.

``Travelling throughout the 26 Counties over the last few weeks people have spoken to me of their growing cynicism towards politics due to recent revelations about corruption, the increasing gap between rich and poor in our society despite claims of a booming economy and most of all the failure of the two governments to grasp the opportunity presented by the peace process.

``Our policies on issues as varied as rural regeneration, fisheries, forestry, job creation, local democracy, supporting communities in the fight against drugs, equality for women, and Irish language rights are finding a resonance on the doorsteps and are winning new voters to the party every day.

``I want to make a special appeal to first time voters and to those who have not voted in previous elections. Your vote, and how you use it, will influence the direction our society will take. By not voting you are accepting things as they are and are allowing your future to be decided by others.

``Our party is on the verge of a major breakthrough and the election of Sinn Fein TD's will compliment the work of the newly elected MP's. A vote for Sinn Fein is a vote for change. Our message in this election in one of hope - hope for a new and peaceful future in a society of equals.''
