Nationalists must maximise turnout

Speaking at his last press conference before polling day on Thursday, Sinn Fein EU Candidate Mitchel McLaughlin said:

``After a three week exhaustive election campaign I am very pleased with the response we received across the six counties.

``I believe that the main theme of our election, to win a second nationalist seat, has caught the imagination of nationalist voters. They know that we can achieve this goal. A strong nationalist turnout will strengthen the peace press, win a second seat and put a Sinn Fein voice in the European parliament.

``Equally importantly, a Sinn Fein voice in Europe will mean a voice for radical reform of the European Union, the CAP, structural funds and the building of an equality based social Europe.

``I am firmly of the view that if we can maximise the nationalist vote on polling day then we can win a second seat for nationalists.

``I am appealing to the nationalist people of the six counties to seize this historic opportunity and return two nationalist MEP's to the European parliament.''
