Sinn Fein to launch Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual policy document

Sinn Fein will hold a press conference tomorrow (Wednesday 26th) in Buswells Hotel, Dublin, at 11.30am to launch Moving On: A policy for gay, lesbian and bisexual equality. Attending the Press Conference will be Sinn Fein General Secretary Lucilita Bhreatnach and Eoin O'Broin and Rita O'Reilly who are the co-ordinators of the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Equality Working Group in Sinn Fein.

Speaking prior to the press conference Sinn Fein General Secretary Lucilita Bhreatnach said:

``Moving On - a Policy for Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Equality arose out of discussions both within Sinn Fein and with groups such as the Gay and Lesbian Equality Network in Dublin, The Rainbow Project in Derry and Clár na mBan in Belfast.

``The document, which was adopted at our last Ard Fheis contains three main elements:

Ms Bhreatnach concluded:

``In March of this year I wrote to Mervyn Taylor, Minister for Equality and Law Reform, bringing to his attention Sinn Fein's demand for the immediate introduction of the Equal Status Bill but despite repeated promises such legislation has yet to be published. I once again call on the Minister to immediately introduce the Equal Status Bill.''
