Sinn Fein vote on Taoiseach

Sinn Fein TD for Cavan and Monaghan Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin will take his seat in Leinster House today. Speaking this morning to supporters and constituents, Mr. Ó Caoláin said:

``I am proud and happy to take my seat in Leinster House as a Sinn Fein TD representing the constituency of Cavan and Monaghan. Sinn Fein is an all Ireland party and I will be accompanied today by my colleagues Gerry Adams MP, West Belfast and Martin McGuinness MP, Mid Ulster.

``The most urgent task for all of us is the need to rebuild the peace process. The positive engagement and support of the new government and all the representatives in Leinster House will be needed to bring this about.

``On the vote for Taoiseach therefore Sinn Fein's priority is the rebuilding of the peace process. Accordingly I will be casting my vote for Bertie Ahern as Taoiseach. I am doing so solely on the basis of his and his party's positive disposition towards a genuine and inclusive process.''
