Sinn Fein-Opposition to Telecom Sell Off

Sinn Fein councillor Séan Crowe today voiced his concerns over the sell off of Telecom Eireann shares tomorrow.

Mr Crowe said:

``The selling off of this successful semi-state, at a time when the economy is in relatively successful condition, makes absolutely no sense. Also I find it very unfair that the ordinary people of Ireland are being asked to buy shares in company that their tax's have already paid for.''

``I am conscious of the fact that this company could be taken over by large multinational conglomerates, who place profit above any other considerations, which would remove the sense of job security currently enjoyed by the employees of Telecom.''

``Any profit which the state makes from the selling off of this company, should be invested in all those working class communities, which the `Celtic Tiger' has left unchanged.''
