Loyalist march through village where Quinn children await burial

Sinn Fein Moyle District Councillor James McCarry described as ``outrageous and an affront'' the marching and playing by a loyalist band, through the village of Rasharkin, where the three Quinn children are being waked and are to be buried from.

Cllr. McCarry said:

``Loyalist bands have been marching today and last night through the village of Rasharkin. Their very presence is in itself an affront to every decent person, given that the bodies of the Quinn boys are being waked and are to be buried from the village.

``The sounds of marching bands and their supporters could be heard throughout the village. Today this is continuing. What is happening here is an act of pure hatred and total disregard for the feelings of the Quinn family and friends at their time of mourning.

``These bands have proven themselves incapable of displaying any feeling for the Quinn family. The people of Rasharkin are seeing some of the worst scenes of naked sectarianism ever witnessed.

``One would have thought that in the face of this terrible act of sectarian murder that they would have at least stayed away or remained silent. Instead they exercised shame.

``I am calling on the MP for the area, Ian Paisley, to immediately intervene and use his considerable influence to restrain these bandsmen and their hangers on from adding to the immense grief of the Quinn family by not returning to the village this evening.''
