Sinn Fein amendments to NI Bill

Statement from West Belfast Assembly member Bairbre de Brun, commenting on the Northern Ireland Bill going through the British House of Commons.

Ms. de Brun said:

``The Bill, any supplementary legislation and the British Irish Agreement have to accurately reflect the letter and the spirit of the Good Friday Agreement. This was what the participants agreed to.

``The legislation contained in the Bill is an enabling mechanism and must therefore facilitate the delivery of what was agreed on Good Friday. This is not only about institutions it is about equality, justice, Irish language and other cultural rights, demilitarisation, prisoners and policing.

``We have responded to the British government. We have made a number of specific suggestions to improve the Bill. We have also brought these to the attention of the Irish government.''
