Sinn Fein's Burke to Make History

Sinn Fein Councillor Christy Burke will make history tomorrow by becoming the first member of Sinn Fein in Dublin's history to wear the Lord Mayor's Chain of Office. Councillor Burke is deputizing for the Lord Mayor Joe Doyle. The hard working Councillor will officially open the newly upgraded Ormond Square area of the inner city. The improvements to the Square have been funded as part of the cities Historic Area Rejuvenation Project and will be opened officially on Friday at 10-30 am. Councillor Burke who was born nearby, expressed his delight at the honour.

Councillor Burke said:

``I am delighted and honoured by this generous proposal from the Lord Mayor Joe Doyle, to open the newly upgraded Ormond Square. Projects like this are literally putting the heart back in to Dublin's Inner City. I am also aware of the historic nature of this honour which has come about because of the generosity of the Lord Mayor and important funding for the Square's renewal by the Historic Area Rejuvenation Project . I am looking forward eagerly to tomorrow mornings ceremony.''ENDS
