Sinn Fein TD calls for disclosure of Garda information on Dublin/Monaghan bombings

Sinn Fein TD Caoimhghin O Caoláin has responded to the news that relatives of victims of the 1974 Dublin and Monaghan bombings have lost a High Court case calling for disclosure of Garda information on the tragedy. The Cavan/Monaghan deputy has called on the Minister for Justice to order the release of Garda information on the bombings which claimed the lives of 33 people. Deputy O Caoláin said:

``These bombings of 17 May 1974 were the worst single event in the course of the conflict in terms of loss of life. Evidence points to the involvement of British crown forces in the bombings but the cover-up continues to this day.

``Minister for Justice John O'Donoghue should order the release of the Garda files so that Mr Patrick Doyle can proceed with his case against the British government at the European Commission on Human Rights. I would remind the Minister that the Fianna Fáil Ard Fheis called for the release of the files.

``The government should also be raising this matter with the British government.''
