Republican Prisoners updated on Peace Process

Statement from Sinn Fein Vice President Pat Doherty following his visit to republican prisoners in the H-Blocks of Long Kesh and in Maghaberry prison. Mr Doherty was accompanied by Martin Mc Guinness MP and elected representatives Dodie Mc Guinness ,Pat Mc Namee and Martin Livingstone.

Mr. Doherty said:

``We met a representative group of prisoneres in both prisons today. The exchange we had with the prisoners was very worthwhile indeed. The prisoners were brought up to date on the current situation. I was impressed with the support they gave for the peace process and the emphasis they put on finding a peace settlement above and beyond their own circumstances.

``I gave them an assurance that their release and the transfer and release of prisoners from England was a priority for us and that there could not be a peace settlement without the release of all political prisoners.
