Utmost vigilance needed

Sinn Fein Northern Chairperson Geroid O hEara has warned Nationalists and Republicans to ``remain vigilant'' in the wake of a parcel bomb being sent to the family of Colin Duffy this afternoon.

Mr O hEara said:

``I am calling on Nationalists and Republicans to remain vigilant. Almost certainly this is the work of loyalists.

``People should be alert to any suspicious packages. Further more there is a need to exercise caution in general.

``I make this call in the knowledge that known loyalists have been targeting Nationalists and Republicans in recent weeks throughout the six counties.

``This parcel was delivered over two hours ago. I have been in contact with the Duffy family and local people. They have told me that the bomb disposal squad and the RUC as yet failed to respond.

``Again as in the past when Republicans have been targeted their failure to respond with any urgency highlights the total inadequacy of this force.

``It also points out to the public its inability to ``police'' fairly and impartiality and is just another one of the many reasons that justifies its disbandment.''
