Negotiations to commence next Tuesday

Commenting on the inaugural meeting of the negotiations Business Committee which took place at Castle Buildings, Stormont this morning, Sinn Fein representative on the committee, Bairbre de Brun said:

``This mornings meeting was conducted in a very constructive and business like fashion and considerable progress has been made. All participating parties were present this morning and this is clearly the way to move forward.

``If we have learned anything this morning it is that with a positive approach we can move forward. Unfortunately the DUP and Robert McCartney have refused to join us and continue to attempt to wreck the peace process from outside. They should join the rest of us in the talks and represent their electorate in these negotiations.

``In any event the negotiations begin next Tuesday. The overwhelming majority of the people on this island want these to succeed. That is certainly our objective.''
