Language a priority for the next year
Sinn Fein Youth Campaigns co-ordinator Pearse Doherty welcomed the decision of the annual congress to appoint an Irish Language Officer.
``The issue of the Irish Language has been somewhat ignored in our initial year. With todays decision this will not change. Sinn Fein Youth will be organising a widespread programme of language classes for our activist base. The officers elected have all pledged to learn the Irish Language. It is our intention that next years congress will be a truly bi-langual affair.
``I am pleased that Sinn Fein Youth will be taking a leading role inthe promotion of the Irish Language nationwide. It will afford us the opportunity of widening our appeal and contributing in a positive way to our own education and development.''
