Agreement must be implemented in full

Sinn Fein Assembly member for north Belfast Gerry Kelly this evening said that it is up to those of us who support the Agreement to defend it and ensure its implementation in full.''

Mr. Kelly said:

``The responsibility for the current impasse in the peace process rests with the Unionists who are attempting to rewrite the Good Friday Agreement on their own terms.

``What was agreed on Good Friday, what each of the parties committed themselves to and most importantly what we promised the people of the island was the full implementation of the Agreement. This position was overwhelmingly endorsed by the people on May 22nd.

``The minority of people who voted against the Agreement cannot be allowed to exercise a veto over its implementation or to prevent the political progress which should inevitably flow from that.

``Sinn Fein voters have a right to be fully represented in the Executive and the all-Ireland Ministerial Council. It is up to those of us who support the Agreement to defend it and ensure its full implementation. Any other course will certainly encourage Unionists in their intransigence''
